Ethel R. Karns, of New Oxford and formerly of Dillsburg, passed away January 27, 2011, at the home. Ethel was the widow of Lee H. Karns.

She was born February 22, 1915, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Milton and Edna (Elicker) Sheaffer.

Mrs. Karns was a former secretary, having retired from the former Book of the Month Club, Mechanicsburg.

Ethel was a graduate of the former Dillsburg High School, Class of 1934 and the Carlisle Commercial College. She was a member of the Faith Community Church of the Brethren, New Oxford.

She is survived by one sister, Dorothy B. Ernst of Arendsville; one niece, Kay Hollabaugh of Biglerville; and one nephew, John Ernst of Columbia, SC.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald Karns, and one sister, Margaret Smith.

Interment: Dillsburg Cemetery.
