Arnold Goodroad

ESTELLINE – Arnold L. Goodroad, 74, died March 4 in a Brookings hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Ascension Lutheran Church at Brookings with the Rev. Paul Rogers and the Rev. Paula Geister Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery at Brandt.

Visitation will be in Rude's Funeral Home at Brookings from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and in the church Friday prior to the services.

Mr. Goodroad was born July 22, 1916, at Estelline to Lawrence and Hilda (Jorvig) Goodroad. He grew up in the Hidewood Hills area of Deuel County and attended grade school in Hidewood and Castlewood. He married Rose TeGantvoort in 1940 in Clear Lake.
From 1940 until 1970, they farmed near Estelline and then retired from farming and moved to Brookings where he was employed as a crop insurance salesman for three years. He then was employed at the Stanley J. Marshall Health Physical Education and Recreation Center at S.D. State University for 13 years.

Mr. Goodroad was a member of the Brookings BPOE 1490 and the Circle and Swing Square Dancing Club. He was a past member of the Highland Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran and Ascension Lutheran church boards, Estelline Co-op Elevator Board and the Federal Land Bank of Milbank.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. (C.J.) Geraldine Aune of Cannon Falls, Minn., Mrs. (Don) Donna Klapprodt of Brookings, Marjean Goodroad of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Karla Goodroad of Mission Viejo, Calif.; four sisters, Lorraine Hammer of Bozeman, Mont., Mrs. (Keith) Frances Squires of Brant, Mrs. (Jerry) Marlys Houtman of Brookings and Mrs. (Steve) Darlene Johnson of Clear Lake; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
