Widow of Kouts Drug Pioneer Succumbs This Morning
KOUTS, Dec. 1.--Mrs. Amalia Augusta Benkie, well-known 80-year-old resident of Kouts, died at her home this morning at 2:25 a.m. She was the widow of John G. Benkie, one-time prominent Kouts druggist, who died July 7, 1939.
Mrs. Benkie had been ailing for the past year. Death came early today after complications occurred.
Amalia Augusta Dalke, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Tetzloff) Dalke, was born Sept. 1, 1867, at Blue Sea, in Starke county, Indiana. On April 30, 1890, she was united in marriage with John G. Benkie in St. John's Evangelical church near Medaryville. The couple moved to Kouts from Wanatah on Aug. 29, 1890.
Surviving are one son, J. Raymond Benkie, and two daughters, the Misses Louise and Etta L., all of whom reside at home. Another daughter, Mae, the wife of Dr. F. E. Ling of Hebron, also survives, as does one grandson, Dr. John F. Ling, and two great-grandchildren, Ninette Diane and Elizabeth Jane, all of Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at the Kosanke Brothers funeral home in Kouts. The Rev. Ernest Armstrong of Plymouth will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, west of Kouts.
Friends may view the body at the Kosanke funeral home Tuesday after 7 p.m., and Wednesday until time of services.
