Helen Elizabeth Rutherford Butler, 101, of John Knox Village, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 25 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home with services following at 11 a.m. Private entombment in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to John Knox Village Hospice, 400 NW Murray Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Helen was born on January 23, 1909 in Gray Summit, MO to William Walker and Lillie Mae (Johnson) Rutherford. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and her late husband, Joseph B. Butler. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. She is a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Independence, MO. Helen worked for Southwest Bank of St. Louis from 1937 to 1939 and later worked for National Cash Register Company in Kansas City and J.C. Penny Company at the Blue Ridge Mall. She and Joseph moved to John Knox Village on September 15, 1975 and they both enjoyed music together. She will be remembered for her sweet smile and wide circle of friends.
