Phil Andrew McAfee went home to be embraced in the arms of Jesus after a valiant, courageous, and hope-filled fight against esophageal cancer, on September 19, 2010, in his family home in Springfield, Mo. Phil was surrounded by the love of family and friends in his final days. He was born August 25, 1957, in Lakin, Kan. Phil obtained his bachelors degree from MSU in finance and an associate of arts degree from Johnson County Community College. Phil participated in Vision 20/20, the EOE committee, and Education committee's with the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors. Phil was a former member of Toastmasters and a former Rotarian. He most recently worked with CJR Commercial Group in the Real Estate field. Phil was formerly employed with Bucher Willis Ratliff engineering firm in Kansas City, Mo., and the Kansas Department of Transportation. Phil loved spending time with his wife and daughter doing just about anything. Phil was an amazing man in a quiet strong way. He loved God and was sincerely thankful for every blessing. Phil will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Bernadean Marie McAfee, and his daughter whom he loved tremendously, Kaitlin Marie McAfee, both of the home; his mother, Alfreda McAfee, Johnson City, Tenn.; his father, Dr. Robert Gordon McAfee, Springfield, Mo.; brothers, Jeff McAfee, Springfield, Mo., and Steve McAfee, state of Florida; extended family and many friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at the First and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, with Rev. Robert Strand officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield.
