Abrame-Louis Grandlienard II was born in Perrefitte, Bern, Switzerland on Oct. 30, 1808 to parents Abram Grandlienard and Marie Magdelaine Merillat. His grandparents were Jean-Jaques Grandlienard and Susanne Bueche of Perrefitte, Switzerland. His family ancestry dates back to his family coming into Switzerland from St. Hippolyte, France in the early 1600's. From the bourgeois of Perrifitte, Abram came to America on the packet ship Robert Kelly, arriving in New York Harbor from La Havre, France on July 1, 1850.
Abraham (Abram) married Henriette Aschelimann on March 10, 1839. She died in Perrefitte Switzerland on April 3, 1847 after giving birth to four children, Henriette-Emilie, Susanne-Sophie, Abraham-Louis III, and Henriette-Susanne, all born in Switzerland. Abram remarried to Sophie Sounier on August 2, 1848, who was their family care giver. After some problems that eminated from the relationship of Sophie and her step children, Abram decided to move his family to America.
With Sophie, Abram had five more children, Paul was born in Switzerland and the others in America, Henry, Marie, Elise, and Edward.
After arriving in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 4, 1850 They soon moved to Wells County, Indiana. It was in Vera Cruz, Wells County that Abram settled, began farming and raising his family.
Abram died after being kicked in the head by one of his mules. He was found by a passer by and taken to his home where he died later in the day.
His wife Sophie lived on for another 48 years after Abram's death.
