Civil War service (Confederate): Thomas' Legion (Co. A, Indian Battalion), 1865. This is by Carver's own testimony, even though no official record of his service has survived. Here are Aden Carver's own words, as quoted in a newspaper article when he was 94 years old:

"I was in the War Between the States the last year in Col. Bill Thomas' company. [...] Bill Thomas named me a member of his home guard. [...] It was Thomas who sent me my first pair of store boots. I got a uniform and an Enfield rifle [...] Capt. Joe Collins was my superior officer." (SOURCE: Asheville Citizen-Times, Sept. 29, 1940, p.6)
