Michael Charles Higginbotham, Jr. was born December 8, 1979, at Paola, Kansas. He was the son of Michael C. and Sandra (Meiers) Higginbotham, Sr. He lived in Williamsburg four years and Rantoul three and one-half years, before moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home for the past year, until his death Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the age of twenty-two years.

Michael graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1998.

He was currently working at Leadbetter Homes of Ottawa, where he had been employed the past three years. He had also worked as an auto mechanic at the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

An outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his collection of eagle and wolf figurines. Most important to Mike were his family and friends and he greatly enjoyed his little cousins.

On August 29, 2001, Michael was united in marriage with Treva Lamm at Ottawa. She survives of Ottawa.

Also, surviving are his father, Michael C. Higginbotham, Sr. and his wife, Linda, of Harveyville; mother, Sandra Meiers of Rantoul; sister, Michelle Higginbotham of Centropolis; two half-brothers, Jonathan Higginbotham of Harveyville, Jesse Higginbotham of Harveyville; paternal grandparents, Loren and Ivana Higginbotham of Mapleton; maternal grandparents, Bill and Deloris Meiers of Ottawa; paternal great-grandmother, Louise Brittingham of Pomona; and, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Clevenger Peterson.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002.

OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Scott Dickinson.

IN STATE: Michael will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.

CEMETERY: Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, Holmes Cemetery, Prescott, Kansas.

MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Michael Higginbotham, Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
