OCY MIDKIFF STANFORD

Ocy Midkiff Stanford, age 99 years, of Bryan passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006. Mrs. Stanford was born July 27, 1906 to Christopher Columbus and Mary Emma (Cobb) Midkiff in Grimes County, near Bedias, at the family home called Sand Hill.

Mrs. Stanford was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie (lovingly called Jack) Stanford, her parents, a step-son, Bob Stanford, half-brothers, Lucian, Lee, Frank and Isaac Midkiff, a half-sister, Virgie (Mifkiff) Callender, brothers, Brown, Rufus, Hulon and Luther Midkiff, sisters, Bessie(Midkiff)Harmon, Ethel(Midkiff) Baldwin and Ruby (Midkiff) Shirley.

Aunt Ocy or Neno, as she was affectionately called, is survived by step-son, Wade Stanford and his wife Dorothy of Huntsville, and grandson, Lonnie Ross Stanford and his wife Kathy and their children. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces, including Donnie Midkiff, Jr. and wife Tasha, and Roger Callender and wife Sandra. Miss Ocy will be missed by numerous friends and wonderful staff at Crestview Terrace Apartments.

Miss Ocy graduated from Bedias High School and after attending Sam Houston Norman Institute in Huntsville, she taught school in several communities in Grimes County, including Pankey, Keith, Stone and Bedias. An avid reader, she loved teaching and her students. She enjoyed traveling and had many exciting adventures. A wonderful storyteller, she would enlighten anyone who would listen with her stories of the past and the Midkiff and Stanford families. She believed in the right to vote and continued to do so until her death. Mrs. Stanford later worked as a manager of the Holland Avenue Cleaners in Galena Park for many years and then retired. She was a member of Reliance Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias, Tuesday, June 6 at 2:00 P.M. with interment following at Bedias Baptist Cemetery. Services will be conducted by her nephew Michael Midkiff, a pastor in Marshall, TX and Ray Marshall, pastor of Reliance Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, June 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
