Velma Trofatter
Velma Trofatter, 71, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of St. Ignace, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at her home.
She was born November 3, 1933, in St. Ignace to Michael and May Bell (nee Robbins) Wiertalla. She was graduated from high school in St. Ignace.
She married Robert Trofatter June 9, 1952.
Mrs. Trofatter was active in Special Olympics and was interested in furthering the rights of the mentally handicapped. She enjoyed reading, sewing, artwork, and painting.
Mrs. Trofatter is survived by her husband, Robert; nine children and their families, Mary and Jim Myska of Rockford, Rick and Judy Trofatter of Mount Pleasant, D.J. Trofatter of Detroit, David and Angela Trofatter of Mount Pleasant, Dixie Trofatter of Rosebush, Rob and Toni Trofatter of Midland, Shannon and John Shelton, Skip Trofatter, and Gary Trofatter, all of Mount Pleasant; 10 grandchildren, Laura, Sarah, Jeremy, Melissa, Jacqui, Dustin, Naomi, Eric, Katherine, and Chelsea; three great-grandchildren, Cayden, Donovan, and Kyra; and a brother and his family, Maynard and Ruby Wiertalla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Kathryn, and two brothers, Carl and Mike.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with Kenneth Walker officiating. The family received friends Saturday, March 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the chapel.
