As a youg boy, age 11, Norris found himself in the middle of a "footnote" to Louisiana history known as the "Grabow Riot", a gunfight between union strikers and owners & non-strikers at the sawmill owned by his grandfather, father and uncles. During the fight Norris was struck in the shoulder by a striker's buckshot. This event remained in his memory all of his life.
Norris and Ruby were the parents of four daughters: Sammie Louise(Nichols), Billie Sue (Lamb), Mary Frances (McLaughlin) and Patricia Carol (Cooper) (McKnight). Norris passed from this life at age 74 and his funeral services were at the First Baptist Church of DeRidder followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
