Prince, philanthropist, collector and amateur artist. Participated in exhibitions of "World of Art", since 1903 owner of the literary and artistic salon in Moscow, in 1911-15 a member of the Board of the Tretyakov Gallery. Assembled a collection of icons, paintings by Russian artists of the early XX century, Western European and Japanese charts, Chinese and Western European porcelain and works of decorative art. In 1918, when he was in exile in France, then in the U.S., his collection was nationalized. Author of the book of memories "Artist in the bygone Russia" (New York, 1955).
