William D. Davis, age 84, of Monmouth, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. He was born in Monmouth on December 29, 1926, the son of Emery B. and Dorothy E. Shauman Davis. He was reared in the Coldbrook area. Bill graduated from Monmouth High School and was also a 1950 graduate of Monmouth College where he played football and was a member of the TKE fraternity. Bill received his Master's Degree from Western Illinois University in 1965. He was a teacher at Larchland and later at Central Junior High School in Monmouth where he taught math. Later he was appointed principal at Central Junior High until his retirement. Bill was a member of Kiwanis Club and the Lions Club.
Bill married Beverly Boland on March 2, 1952 in Altona, Ill., she survives. Also he is survived by his sons; Bob Davis (Lori) of Kirkwood, Ill., Jon Davis (Cindy) of Scottsdale, Az., Daniel Davis (Tammy) of Ballwin, Mo. and daughter Lynn Holtzhouser (Steve) of Escondidoca, Ca., eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one sister Bette Vance of Monmouth, brother-in-law Claud Boland (Peggy) and sister-in-law Ellen Boland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brother-in-laws.

Services: Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. Interment of his ashes will be in Mosher Cemetery. His family will be present to receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A memorial fund has been established for Faith United Presbyterian Church or OSF Hospice
