Funeral services for Paul E. Jensen, 86, of Louisville, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. He died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at the Episcopal Church Home.
Born in New Albany, to the late Paul Jensen and Ida Proctor Jensen, he moved with his family to Louisville three years after he was born. In 1943, he graduated from Louisville Male High School, where he was a member of the ROTC and the ROTC Marching Band. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in North Africa and Italy. After his Army service, he enlisted in the "Ready Reserves" and served for 38 uninterrupted years before retiring as Command Sergeant Major. He was a lifetime member of BPOE No 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Highland Post, Retired Enlisted Association, and Association of Uniform Services. He was a sales representative for General Rubber & Supply on Preston Street with 28 years service.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Lonnie Jensen; nieces, Kathryn Maerz and her husband, John, Anne Simon and her husband, Dan, Betty Dysart, Brenda Strause and her husband, Jim, Barbara Steinbach and her husband, Jim, Bernice Scherr and her husband, Eddie and Belinda Smith; and nephews, Mark Smith and his wife, Cath and Mark Smith and his wife Michelle.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Kosair Children's Hospital or Alzheimer's Association.
