Walter Zenger, Sr., son of Johannes and Bertha Zenger, was born November 11, 1894, on a farm near Haddam, Kansas. He died December 20, 1975, in the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas , at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 9 days.


He was united in marriage to Stella Smith June 13, 1923. Seven sons, all living, were born to this union.


Those surviving Walter include his wife, Stella, and the seven sons and wives, Walter Jr., of Cuba, Wendel of Haddam, Wade of Cuba, Winfred, Wesley, Warren of Haddam, and Weldon of Hays, Kans. There are seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one sister, Martha Wharton of Mankato, Kansas, two brothers, August of Haddam, and Frank of Mankato.


He lived and farmed near Haddam all his life. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge for over fifty years.


Funeral services were held at the Haddam United Methodist church, Rev. Henry Grusing and Rev. Burr Crickard officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons: Jim, Steve, Nick, Rex, Neil, Sheldon and Kevin Zenger. Burial was in the Haddam cemetery.
