William Lee Byard was the eldest of the 7 children of Richard Lee Byard (1886) and Mattie Bell Martin (1892). He grew up on a farm near Clarksville, Montgomery, Tennessee. He never lost his love of farming. He migrated to Detroit about 1930 and married Lora Ethel Farmer (1909). He was employed by GM Ternstedt Division most of his working life, first in Detroit and later at the Flint facility. He had a small acreage near Flushing, Michigan and was a hobby farmer until he retired. He loved Florida, loved traveling in his Airstream trailer, and after retirement moved to Osprey, Sarasota County, Florida where he remained until his health deteriorated. They then returned to Michigan to be with their daughter, Sue, until his death.
