CLARE BEARD
Montrose, Iowa --- Mrs. Clare Beard, long time resident of Montrose, died Monday, December 31, at 1:30 p.m. in the home of her son, Winton Beard of Fresno., California.
J. Clare Troutman was born in Bonaparte on December 15, 1882, the eldest daughter of Stephen Scott and Minnie Hinish Troutman.
In 1901 she married Arnold Beard in Bonaparte. Her husband preceded her in death in June of 1926.
In 1910 the family moved to Montrose, where she had since made her home. Mrs. Beard was very active in church and community affairs at Montrose, was a charter member of the Womans Civic club and the first woman to serve on the board of education.
Surviving are her son, Winton of Fresno; two grandchildren, Kay and Carole Beard of Fresno; a sister, Mrs. Elmer E. Smith of Bonaparte; three brothers, Frank and James Troutman of Bonaparte, and Joseph S. Troutman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mrs. E. D. Crooks of Montrose.
The body will arrive in Fort Madison Friday morning and be taken to the Hall Funeral home where it will remain until noon on Saturday at which time it will be removed to the Presbyterian church in Montrose to lie in state until 2:30 p.m. when the funeral services will be held with the pastor, the Rev. Eldon Semans, officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Beard are accompanying the body and will be guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Koch of 1918 Concert street.
