DEATH COMES TO A FORMER UNION COUNTY WOMAN

Rites Are Held At Pleasant Hill Church For Mrs. Ed. Goodroad

Mrs. Ed. U. Goodroad, of Yakima Wash., passed away Thursday, June 8, 1950, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Abrahamson, west of Akron. She and her husband came May 27 to visit their children and other relatives in this locality. She had been taken ill with a cerebral hemorrhage on May 31 and another two days later. She was 69 years of age.

Myrtie Bell Gardner was born April 20, 1881, in Union county, S.D., and grew to young womanhood in the Pleasant Hill community. She was married to Ed. U. Goodroad on May 24, 1899. They moved to Madison, S.D., in. 1901, but returned to Union county and lived there for a while before moving to the Black Hills, near Whitewood, S.D. In 1942 they went west to Washington, where Mr. Goodroad worked in the ship yards in Vancouver. After the war they bought a little home in Yakima.

She leaves to mourn her passing besides her husband, Ed., two sons Harley Goodroad, of Elk Point, S.D. and Lyle Goodroad, of Tilford, S.D.; four daughters, Mrs. Herman Beck, of Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. Lewis Abrahamson, of Union county, S.D.; Mrs. L.C. Taylor, of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. LeRoy Snow, of Yakima, Wash.; 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. B.V. Goodroad, of Medford, Ore.; Mrs. Wilson Heasley, of Battle Ground, Wash., and Mrs. Harvey Welch, west of Akron.

Mrs. Goodroad united with the Pleasant Hill United Brethren church in 1894 and in January of this year applied for her letter to be transferred to the Evangelical United Brethren church at Yakima.

A faithful wife and loving mother, she will be sadly missed by her family. Her pleasant ways and kindness will be missed by relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 11, at the Rossow Funeral Home and at the Pleasant Hill Evangelical United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. R.A. Pfeifer. Mrs. Lincoln Twedt and Mrs. Everett Pederson sang, accompanied by Mrs. Pfeifer.

Pallbearers were Lewis Bly, George Carlson, Alfred Swanson, Hjalmer Abraham, Russell Huff and Ira Peterson.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
