He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary (nee Venhuda); his children, Natalie Janssen of San Diego, Mathew Matrypula of Manteno and Walter Matrypula Jr. of Bradley. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Walter, Lilly Anna, Alyssa, Mackenzi and Milla; two sisters, Mary (Sam) Thomasello of Sycamore and Helen Gallagher of Alabama.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Woldomyr and Olga Matrypula.
Walter was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in Vietnam. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears.
Funeral services for Walter: Wednesday, December 22, at Forsythe Funeral Home, Manhattan.
Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
