On the 1850 Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer Jonathan Brooks, 49; Maria W Brooks, 38; Samuel A Brooks, 18; Harriet E Brooks, 16; Elvira A Brooks, 14; CORNELIA G Brooks, 11; James M Brooks, 8; John F Brook, 5; William D Brooks, 2 and Ruth Finly, 66, all VA born.

On 27 September 1865, Capt. John S. Brown, 25, single, born & living in Rockingham, Merchant, son of John G. Brown & Mary Brown, married Cornelia G. Brooks, 25, Single, born in Rockbridge, daughter of Maj. Jonathan Brooks & Maria W. Brooks, E.D. Junkin officiating. Familysearch.

On the 1870 South River, Rockbridge Co., VA, I found farmer Jonathan Brooks, 70, with $12K in real estate; Maria W, 58; James W, 27; CORNELIA B, 30; Mary R, 18 and Augusta B, 4, all VA born. They resided with the George W Wade family.

On 9 Apr 1875, William Huston Brown was born in the Pastures, Augusta Co., VA to John M Brown and C Cornelia Brown (Familysearch).

Adams-Near Rockbridge Baths, on the 26th of May, of consumption, Mrs. C. G. Adams, daughter of Maj Jonathan Brooks, of New Providence Church. She was a true and faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, and her christian character shone brighter and brighter even unto death. Her death Notice was in the Staunton Spectator dated 4 Jun 1878. Consumption was also known as tuberculosis or TB.
