Prominent Resident Leaves Host of Friends in Chillicothe and All North Missouri
FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY
Has Lived in Chillicothe 33 Years--Leaves Wife and Three Children

Henry C Butts, 78 years old, well-known retired real estate dealer, farmer and stockman, died late last night at his home, 918 Webster street, after a long illness.

Mr Butts had been in failing health several years. Two weeks ago, his condition became critical and his death had been expected several days.

Mr Butts is survived by his widow, Mrs Anna E Butts, of the home; two daughters, Mrs E P Stubbs, 321 Dickinson street, and Miss Lucille Butts, of the home, and a son, George C Butts, of the editorial staff of The Kansas City Star [newspaper].

A resident of Chillicothe thirty-three years, Mr Butts, through his real estate, livestock and farming activities, became well known throughout this section of Missouri. He often said he had friends in virtually every town in Northwest Missouri.

Born near Davis City, Iowa, January 1, 1850, Mr Butts, with his parents, moved to Mercer county, Missouri, when he was about two years old. When he attained his majority, he moved to Carroll county and lived there continuously until he moved to Chillicothe. He had a real estate office here in the old Fair Store building where the First National Bank is now. Later, he had offices with the late James E Watkins, editor of The Constitution.

Because of ill health, Mr Butts retired about six years ago from active business. Since that time, he spent much of his time with his friends here.

Although a Democrat in politics, Mr Butts never hesitated to support Republicans whom he believed well qualified for the offices they sought. He was outspoken in his convictions, always standing for the men and issues he believed to be right.

Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home, 913 Webster street, conducted by the Reverend W H Brengle, pastor of the First Baptist church, and the Reverend S P Williamson, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial will be in the family lot in Coloma cemetery, four miles west of Tina in Carroll county.
