Mr. Neil Eugene Akers, age 75, of Cottage Landing, Carrollton, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2005 at Tanner Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born June 21, 1929 to the late James "Jimmy" and Mae Irvan Akers. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Akers, Grover Akers and Ivan Akers. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Rayford and Floy Akers of Douglasville, sister and brother-in-law, Leonard and Remona Almond, Gordon and Faye Nell and Gordon Marshall, all of Carrollton and a several nieces and nephews. Recording artist and music historian, Eugene Akers recorded with TV legend Carroll O'Connor "In the Heat of the Night", bluegrass star Randall Franks and Country Music Hall of Famers Kitty Wells, Pee Wee King and Jimmy Dickens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, March 3, 2005 from 1 PM til 3 PM and from 5 PM til 8 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted at Martin & Hightower West Center Street Chapel, Friday, March 4, 2005 at 2 PM. Burial will be in the Whooping Creek Church Cemetery in Carrollton, GA.
