Ralph Muse Lyon is the son of Alph and Annie Coral (née Muse) Lyon. Ralph was dedicated to education and a longtime professor at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina; where Ralph received his Doctorate in Education.

On July 27, 1935, Ralph married Margaret Allen Charters, daughter of Werrett W. and Jessie A. Charters from Columbia, Missouri.

Both Ralph and his wife Margaret were well known professors and administers at Livingston College, later changed to University of West Alabama. In 1977, Dr. Ralph M. Lyon, University educator and administrator, retired from his position, and was honored for his tenure. His wife presented the University with a handcrafted ceremonial mace in his dedication. The mace is used at yearly commencement exercises.

This memorial marker was requested by Ralph because of their long association with Cedar Springs Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and having many aunts, uncles and maternal grandparents being buried here.

Dr. Ralph Muse Lyon, Phd. died August 26, 1993; he is buried in Livingston, Alabama along side his beloved wife, Margaret, of 58 years.
