Ruth L. Slaby, 91, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (12-08-10). She was born on September 27, 1919, on a farm west of Raymond. Ruth graduated from Raymond High School in 1937, and Lincoln School of Commerce in 1939. She married Joseph Slaby in 1941 prior to his enlistment in the Air Force. Ruth worked in various secretarial positions, most notably she worked for the Civilian Personnel Dept. Air Inspectors Office in Wendover Field, Utah from 1942-1945. After returning to Lincoln, she was the State Manager for Better Brushes, Inc., and she was a buyer in the infant and fabric departments of Gold's Department Store. In 1976, Ruth was honored in Who's Who of Nebraska. Ruth was involved in many organizations. She was the past president of the Lincoln and Nebraska Postal Workers Union Auxiliary. She was also a past president with the American Legion Auxiliary Havelock Unit #342 and Lancaster County American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth has been a long-time member of Northeast United Church of Christ where she volunteered her time to be a part of many committees. She loved to sing in the choir, she was on the Visual Arts committee, past president of Women's Fellowship, and served as Deaconess.
Survivors: Sons and Daughters-in-law: Gary and Shirley Slaby, Mountain Home, Ark., Craig and Diane Slaby, Lincoln. Grandsons: Brent, Brad, Brett, Ben Slaby, Lincoln. Brother: Roger A. Lawson, Lincoln. Sisters and brother-in-law: Donna Holka, Marilyn Peterson, Lincoln; Sharon and Gayle Petersen, Harlan, Iowa. Preceded in death by loving husband, Joe; parents Willard (Bid) and Grace Lawson formerly of Raymond.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 13 at Northeast United Church of Christ, 6200 Adams St., Lincoln. Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park immediately following the services. Visitation: Sunday (12-12-10) from 2 to 7 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home; Monday (12-13-10) one hour prior to services at Northeast United Church of Christ.
