GLORIA FRANCES DICKENS WINTERS

GOLD STAR WIFE of Army Pilot Capt. William R. Winters, killed in the air over France in World War II.

A funeral mass for Gloria will be celebrated 11am Thursday December 9, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 South Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174, followed by a graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, FL 34734 commencing at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church from 10am until service time at 11am.

Gloria, an avid gardener, cultivated a garden of love for 87 years. Being a devoted wife and mother were her finest accomplishments. Guided by her deep love for the Lord, she inspired family and all who came in contact with her. As an expert seamstress, sewing for family and friends provided her with deep satisfaction. Having lived through the depression and being a member of the "Greatest Generation", she appreciated the simple things in life. Her gentle strength provided encouragement in times of adversity and we will always be grateful for her vitality and strength.

She is predeceased by her dear husbands, Bob Winters, Ed Winters, and Jack Hughes; and two great-grandsons, Jake Mauro and Daniel Winters.

Survivors include her children Bill, Karol, Patty, Mary Gay, Michael, Ann and Lewis; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.

She lived in Florida for most of her life, attended Hillcrest Elementary, Memorial Junior High, and graduated from Orlando High School, class of 1941. She was a devout parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Orlando and also Prince of Peace in Ormond Beach. She was active in the Aberdeen Singles Club, and a member of the Gold Star Wives of America. Gloria's lifelong friends contributed to her happiness and her jovial sense of humor will be keenly missed.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Alive in Christ Campaign, P.O. Box 2104, Winter Park, FL 32790-2104. Please designate contribution in memory of Gloria Winters for Prince of Peace Church. Arrangements under the care and direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.volusia memorialfunerals.com
