2nd Lt Parker #

Lt. Parker was the Radar Intercept Officer on one of two Marine Corps F4B Phantoms of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA-314 which left Chu Lai, Vietnam, on an air support mission of Marine Corps ground troops in Quang Tri Province on March 18 (the first day of his tour in Vietnan). On the fourth pass, the aircraft was observed to pull off target and then contact was lost. The pilot of the other jet observed a ground explosion. The remains of pilot Major David Morrill (posthumously promoted to Lt. Col) and Lt. Parker were not recovered until 1993. A memorial to both Marines is located at Arlington National Cemetery; a photo of that monument is included with the photos here. He is also memorialized on the Vietnam Memorial Wall (Panel 16E, Line 107).
In addition to his parents, Maxim Parker was survived by his wife of seven weeks. Interment at this cemetery was in 2001.
