Norman Cook Hansen
SYRACUSE - Norman Cook Hansen, after a long and happy life, peacefully passed away at home on December 4, 2010.

He was born on July 18, 1923 in Syracuse, Utah to Clyde William and Hannah Cook Hansen. He was married to Faye Craig of Layton, Utah on June 15, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married 65 years. They moved into their home in Syracuse, Utah on April 1, 1950. They are still residing in this home.

He attended Syracuse Elementary School, Davis High School, and Weber State University.

Norman was a United States Army Air Force Veteran, having served in World War II in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 to 1945. From the base in England, he flew 35 combat missions over Germany, flying on a B-17 with the 306th Bomb Group and the 367th Bombardment Squadron. He was a devoted patriot who loved his country.

For 47 years, Norman, his father, and his brothers owned and operated the family business, Hansen Lumber Company, located in Ogden, Utah. They retired from the business in 1987.

As a life-long resident of Syracuse, Norman has been an active member of the community. He was involved as a player and a coach in many of the city's recreation programs. He served as a Syracuse City Councilman and was a member of the Syracuse Lions Club. Clyde Hansen, followed by his son, Norman, were the first father and son combination to become Eagle Scouts in Davis County.

Throughout his life, Norman was very active in athletics. He coached and played on state championship teams. He was a devoted fan of his sons' and grandchildren's sporting events and activities.

Norman had a passion for the game of golf and loved playing the game with family and friends. He annually hosted the Norm Hansen Invitational Golf Tournament, where it was traditional for him to hit the first drive for each group.

He was very active in the L.D.S. Church. He served as a stake mission president and with Faye as L.D.S. missionaries in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission and as stake missionaries in the Syracuse South Stake. They were ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. Norman also served on the Syracuse Stake High Council, as a member of the bishopric of the Syracuse Second Ward, a member of both stake and ward Young Men's presidencies, and as a faithful home teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Craig Hansen and their five sons and their spouses: Craig N. and Joan Hansen of Kaysville; Douglas C. and Linda Hansen of Boise, Idaho; J. Kelly and Sandra Hansen, Steven L. and Mary Hansen, and Robert K. and Julieanne Hansen all of Syracuse. They have 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Dad and Mom often say that they feel that their greatest accomplishment in their lives was the raising of their five children. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Doris Hansen Cox and Lizette S. Hansen.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde William and Hannah Cook Hansen and C. Russell Hansen, Morris Hansen, Gordon E. and Darlene D. Hansen, Maurine and Jack Marble, and Charlotte Hansen.
