SPRINGFIELD - Robert E. Ackerman, 67, of Springfield, died at 10:09 pm, Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his home.

He was born June 8, 1943 in Springfield to Herbert and Margaret Flagg Ackerman. He married Patricia S. Swigert on June 12, 1971 and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Debra (Dennis) Dever of Litchfield; one grandchild, Tylan; one brother, Kenneth Robertson of Cedar Rapids, IA; one aunt, Hulda Flagg of Sherman and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his great grandmother Flagg and Aunt Susan Flagg-Parks.

Robert was a lifelong resident of the Springfield – Sherman area. He worked as a Pipefitter with Local 137, retiring in 2005. He also worked at Allis Chalmers, Pillsbury Mills, Kenny Campbell Landscaping and Pennington Equipment Co. He was a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed billiards, collecting trains, his "big boy toys" (his 6 and 8 wheel ATV's), and was a friend to many.

Memorial Gathering: 4:00 – 6:30 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.

Memorial Service: 6:30 p.m., Monday December 6, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.

The family requests memorials be made to the Animal Protective League, Alzheimer's Association or a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
