My great-aunt, Lois Atlanta Muse, was the eldest daughter of Rev. Joseph B. Muse and Essie (née Devlin) Muse. Lois was born in the Atlanta, Georgia area on September 11, 1873. She was the sister of Coral Annie Muse Lyon (1876-1955), Janie Muse Smith (1876-1963), Minnie M. Muse (1879-1960), Robert Lowry Muse (1881-1911), Mary Devlin Muse Elvington (1886-1915), Joseph Pressly Muse (1888-1968){my grandfather}and Sarah Eunice Muse Kibler (1891-1911).

After her birth, Lois and her family lived for about eights years in Blanche, Lincoln County, Tennessee while her father was minister at The Prosperity and Blanche Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. About 1882, they moved to Verdery, SC to be closer to her maternal grandparents, James J. & Mary A. Devlin. There her father was primarily a farmer and an associate minister at several A.R.P. churches in the surrounding Abbeville and Greenwood Counties.

On November 25, 1895, Lois A. Muse married John Kerr, son of the late Rev. David and Nancy (née Oates) Kerr of Palestine, Bradley County, Arkansas, at the Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church. They had a farm in Bradley, SC and there they started a family which included daughters, Laura Rebecca Kerr (1896 – 1972), Helen Muse Kerr (1900 – 1987) and son, Joseph Jennings Kerr (1904 – 1990).

Lois Muse Kerr departed this life on July 13, 1942 in the 68th year of her age. She is buried beside her beloved husband John in the cemetery at Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church.
