George was born and raised in Blackgum, Sequoyah County, OK. He was very much loved by his parents and siblings. In 1938 he left Oklahoma with Beulah Jackson, they married and traveled west to California with a few stops along the way. They returned to Oklahoma about 1943. George and Beulah had eleven children, their first child was stillborn. I have been told by family that when they lost their daughter Lily in 1950 it nearly killed him.
I don't know a lot about George beacause he was shot in the back and died a few days later when Bo was 17 months old, leaving behind a widow and nine children, the youngest was 6 months old. Some of the older children have a few fading memories of him. The man who shot him claimed self defence, they had an argument earlier in the day.
His nickname was Buster, and he was a sharecropper. He smoked, drank, and had a reputation for being pretty tough with his fists if needed, I have also heard he was a good man, loved his family, and was a ton of fun.
