Born in Newton County 71 Years Ago - Served Two Terms As Public Administrator

L. C., who has been engaged in the grocery business here the last 19 years and who for 35 years before that conducted a grocery in Sarcoxie, died at his home 610 Grant Street, at 4:10 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Death followed an illness of more than three years. He suffered from paralysis and a complication of ailments.

Mr. Wormington was 71 years old. He was a native of southwest Missouri, his parents being among the early pioneers, and was widely known. He was born in Newton County, near Ritchie, July 17, 1854. His parents moved to Sarcoxie when he was a boy and he grew up and lived there until moving to Carthage 19 years ago.
Except for the first year that he was in business here at another location, he and his son John have conducted the L. C. Wormington & Son grocery at Grant and Fifth Streets. Illness prevented the father from active participation in the business the last three years. He also served as public administrator of Jasper County for two terms, a total of eight years, during his residence here.

Surviving Mr. Wormington are his three sons;
John and Leonard Wormington of Carthage and Carl Wormington of Kansas City

two brothers and two sisters;
Richard Wormington of Sarcoxie
Mrs. Mary Gulick of Sarcoxie
William Wormington of Fairland, Oklahoma
Mrs. Josie Gossett of Oklahoma City

There are also two grandchildren;
Lucille Wormington, daughter of Leonard Wormington of Carthage and Leonard Wormington, son of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Wormington of Kansas City

Mr. Wormington was a member of the Masonic and Modern Woodmen of America (M.W.A.) lodges.

Services were held at the Knell chapel

pastor of the Main Street Presbyterian Church officiated
