Achsah Y. Schultz, longtime resident of rural Burlington, Kan., died Nov. 27, 2010, at Grace Care Center of Cypress in Cypress, Texas, where she had made her home for the past 1½ years. She was 88.

She was born Nov. 7, 1922, at Gridley, the daughter of Earl and Myrtle M. (Gayer) Carter. She grew up on a farm northeast of Gridley and attended country school. She attended Kansas Normal School in Emporia where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at the District 49 country school.

She married Charlie Schultz on June 11, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville. They owned and operated Charlie's Cleaners in Burlington for many years until their retirement. After Charlie died on Jan. 10, 1993, she moved to Cypress, Texas.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington and was also a member of the Floral Club. She enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marion Carter.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Schultz and his wife, Cary, Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a daughter, Jane Kerby and her husband, Albert, Cypress, Texas; and grandchildren, Joy Marlin, Albert Kerby Jr., John Kerby, Janelle Curry and Alexander Kerby.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Burlington, at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Burlington.
