In Memoriam - Harold Blake Bailey. Preston County Journal. Kingwood, WV. Thur., Mar. 8, 1917.
Excerpt -- In found remembrance of Harold Blake Bailey, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey A. Bailey, of Independence. Born Oct. 26, 1909, and died Feb. 22, 1917, aged 7 years, 3 months and 26 days. He received injuries Feb. 16, while coasting, which resulted in his death. The accident happened by his sled running under a wagon loaded with two tons of coal, the rear wheel passing over his body. He was at once carried to a store nearby, and his parents notified of the accident. He was taken to his home and a doctor hastily called. An examination was made and it was ascertained that in addition to a crushed shoulder and broken arm, internal injuries had been sustained. His parents accompanied him to the Miners' Hospital at Fairmont the same evening of the accident, where best attention was given him by the physicians and nurses and the loving care of his mother and sisters, also his aunt, Mrs. George A. Herring, of Kingwood. He leaves to mourn their loss a father, mother, two sisters, and one brother. One brother preceded him to the Glory Land. His funeral was conducted at the home on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., by Rev. Lightner, the Baptist minister of Terra Alta, assisted by Rev. Strader of the M. E. Church of Independence. Interment was made in the K. of P. Cemetery in Newburg.
