Doris Jean Fenton, age 74, of New Philadelphia, moved to the next dimension of life in wonderful grace and peace on March 28, 2007, at 5:50 PM in her home with her family and friends at her side.
Born at New Philadelphia, December 2, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Howard L. and Emma Treacle Ulrich.
She has lived her entire life just a few blocks from where she was born. In high school Doris worked at the former Bond Shoe Store and after graduation from New Philadelphia in 1950, she worked as bookkeeper for the former Union Lumber Company at New Philadelphia. Later she was employed as bookkeeper at Fenton Bros. Electric at New Philadelphia.
On September 20, 1953, she married Leo F. Fenton, who survives.
Together, they reared a family that includes a son, Brian K. Fenton and a daughter, Brenda I. Luikart (husband Mark) all of New Philadelphia. There are no grandchildren but many spiritual children scattered around the world.
Doris' family also includes her brother Don Ulrich (wife Janice) of New Philadelphia, as well as her three brothers-in-law Dale Fenton and Harold Fenton of New Philadelphia and Wilmer Shroyer of Dover.
She has always kept and loved dogs and is survived by her big dog Molly. In addition to her parents,
Doris is preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Fenton in November, 2006, and Edna Shroyer, in April, 1995.
Doris and her husband started ministering in their home in 1970 and have continued to share the Gospel of the Kingdom ever since. In 1977, they incorporated the Christian Community Center Church which Doris and Leo pastored together until 2001. In 2001 the Fenton's incorporated Eternal Vision Ministries which has an outreach ministry, principally, to Spanish countries in Central America, Mexico and Cuba.
She has always involved herself in prayer for the nations and for many individuals around the world. In 1970 Doris and Leo opened their home to those who sought a relationship with Jesus Christ and hosted and fed hundreds of seekers from many parts of the world. On several occasions she welcomed the huge bus of Nicky Cruz and received as many as 21 people to stay in her house for three days at one time.
She was always welcoming anyone with food and lodging, tapes, books and prayer. During her nearly 37 years of ministry Doris witnessed many healings, miracles and deliverance. Through the years, Doris developed a supporting ministry and a prayer ministry over the telephone and by mail and later by e-mail until recently. She maintained a list of birthdays and other special days for people in many countries and remembered them with cards and gifts. She was a remarkable woman who will be missed by multitudes of people.
Friends are invited to call Friday from 2-4 PM and from 6-8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Baker and Dr. Raul Molina will lead a service of Thanksgiving for the life of Doris Fenton at 10 AM Saturday morning in the funeral home's chapel.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
