OBITUARY.

Metta Lund.
AGED PIONEER DIES HERE.
.
Metta Lund was born in Stordalen, Tronhjem, Norway August 20th, 1842, of parents Swedt and Gertrude Lund. She was baptized in early infancy in Hegre church, in which church she was also confirmed. At the age of 23 years she immigrated to America, coming to Goodhue county, Minnesota.
.
September 11, 1865,* she was united in marriage to Andrew L. Hoven [A.K.A. Anders Lasseson Lewison Hoven]. This union was blessed by the birth of five children: two sons and three daughters. Both the two sons, Ludwig and Gilbert have preceded her in death as have also her husband, who died in January, 1910, and one daughter, Randina. Two daughters, Gettina [Gelina] (Mrs. Thomas Gunderson) of Elk Point, South Dakota; and Josephine (Mrs. Almer Helgerson) of Canton, South Dakota survive here.
.
In October 186y [sic], she and her husband came west and homesteaded on what is now Richland Township, Union county, South Dakota, where the deceased has resided ever since, until death called her away shortly after 12 a.m., Wednesday, December 2nd, [1925], at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 12 days.
.
Besides her two daughters, she is also survived by two brothers, Gunder Lund, Sr., and Gunder Lund, Jr., both of Madison, Minnesota; also two sisters, Mrs. Sigrid Solem of Elk Point, South Dakota, and Mrs. Josephine Peterson of Twin Falls, Idaho.
.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, December 4th, from the St. Paul Lutheran Church of which congregation the deceased had been an active member during all of her residence here, Rev. C.B. Runsvold officiating. Interment was made in the St. Paul cemetery [Brule Township, Union County, South Dakota].
.

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE "TEXT" transcribed by Cathy Porter-Maynard, from a "CERTIFIED COPY" of the original 1865 Marriage Certificate of Anders Lasseson and Metta Iversdatter, obtained from the Goodhue County Courthouse, Red Wing, Minnesota. [SOURCE: Goodhue County Marriage Records. Book 2; Page 47].
.
*NOTE 1: The old-fashioned handwriting on the original 1865 marriage license of Anders Lassesson and Metta Lund (Minnesota Marriage Records; Book 2, page 47, on file at the courthouse in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota) is somewhat difficult to decipher; however, it appears that Metta's name is listed on this old document as "Metta Iversdatter." The date (September 11, 1865) and location of their marriage (Red Wing, Goodhue Co., MN), as documented on the original 1865 marriage license, accurately reflects information about their marriage in Metta's obituary; and, with personal family history.
.
NOTE 2: Metta Lund's husband, Anders Andrew Lasseson Lewison Hoven, died in Union County, South Dakota on January 16, 1910; and, is listed on page 402 of the "South Dakota Death Index" as: Anders L Haaven. Certificate Number: 19130. Andrew/Anders and his wife, Metta, are buried in the St. Paul Cemetery (rural Elk Point), Brule Township, Union County, South Daktoa.
