Abolitionist, feminist, businessman. Hunt was a force in the early development of Waterloo, New York, owning much downtown property including the Waterloo Woolen Manufacturing Company which donated cloth to William Lloyd Garrison for a suit of clothes to wear at the World Anti-Slavery Convention in London in 1840. An abolitionist, he provided shelter to travelers on the Underground Railroad. A Hicksite Quaker, he joined the Progressive Friends over the issues of religious and social equality. Hunt signed the Seneca Falls Woman's Rights Convention Declaration of Sentiments, which was planned in his own parlor at a tea.
