Born in Washington, D.C., May 24, 1929, she was preceded in death by her parents, Everett C. and Nell Brown McDonald; husband, Elwood Sharp; sister, Julia Bertha Shepherd, nephews: Joey and Mike Servey, Eric Dykes, Howard E. McDonald, Jr., Everett Frank, Roger and Ralph Chambers; and in-laws: Alvin and Nettie Sharp, Kermit Sharp, Joe Servey, Robert Dykes, Frank Adkins, Cecil Ooten, Robert Helmick, Marie Lloyd, Juanita Chambers, Mae Foust and Artie Sharp.
She grew up in Pineville, Ky., and Huntsville, and accepted Jesus Christ in 1949, and became a member of Norma Missionary Baptist Church, where she had an active role as Sunday School secretary, Sunday School teacher, and a member of choir. She co-owned Sharpís Grocery along with her husband for 47 years. For 62 years, she was a member of Sapphire Chapter #259 Order of the Eastern Star. In 1995, she retired from the State of TN Department of Public Health as a Home Educator with the Child Health and Development Program. She was instrumental in the establishment of Mountain Peopleís Health Councils, Inc., and served on the board of directors for 41 years. Together with the late Artie Sharp, and Scott County Board of Commission, she established the First District Sr. Citizens, and for 20 years served as director and cook until resigning due to health issues. Inducted into the Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame as Sr. Citizen of the Year in 2010, she loved people and she lived a life of service to many. She loved to grow beautiful flowers and especially enjoyed her African violets.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Crystal (Jimmy) Sharp-Lawson of Norma; sons, Terry Dale (Sarah) Sharp of Lebanon, and Quinton Sharp of Powell; grandchildren; James Elwood Sharp and Derek Todd Lawson both of Norma, Leah Renee Sharp of Oneida, and Katy Genelle Lawson-Ott of Camp Lejeune, NC; great-grandchildren; Tessa, Nicholas, and Preston; daughter-in-law, Joan (Earl) Hicks of Oneida; sisters; Genevieve Servey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Grace Sampson and Anna Helmick, both of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Ooten of West Jefferson, Ohio, and Betty Adkins of Valdosta, Ga.; brothers: Clayton (Ann) McDonald and Howard (Joy) McDonald, both of Maryville, Robert (Freeda) McDonald of Lewisburg, and Miller ìBuddyî (Faye) McDonald of Oneida; 16 nieces, 13 nephews, special friend, Wilma Jean Jeffers of Athens, Ga.; church family, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted March 18, at Norma Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Pennington and Bro. David Walker officiating. Music was provided by David and Felecia Walker. Interment followed at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
