Ethel May Hurt was born March 2, 1897 in Webb City, Jasper County, Missouri; and died March 25, 1951. She was the daughter of Cecil Lester Hurt (1875-1920), and Ida Belle Powers. Ethel had three sisters: Myra Belle Hurt, Austie Lester Hurt; and Eva "Fay" Hurt.

Ethel Hurt was the 2nd wife of Edward Marshall Bisbee Stevens. (His first wife, Ella Nichols Childers, had died of TB in 1915, leaving Edward with three little children to raise).

Ethel Hurt and Edward Marshall Bisbee Stevens were united in marriage on December 2, 1917. Ethel immediately took on the role of 'mother' to Edward's young children (six year old Minnie, four year old Bobby; and, three year old Eddie).
In addition, Edward and Ethel became the parents of three additional children of their own: 'Cecil' Ralph Stevens (1919-1965); Lloyd 'Vernon' Stevens (1921-1965); and, Ruby Fay Stevens Swatsenbarg (1923-1988).

In later years, Ethel and Edward also raised one of their granddaughters, Betty Stevens.

Ethel (Hurt) Stevens is buried in the Carterville Cemetery, Carterville, Jasper County, Missouri, with other members of their family.
