Funeral services for ALBERT GORIN SMITH will be held Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:00am in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Brother Gary Ladd officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Albert was born July 30, 1921 in Cameron, Texas to Joseph Ellis Smith and Helen Gorin Smith and entered into rest on November 8, 2010 in The Woodlands, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph Smith.He was a member of Woodlands Place Baptist Church in Magnolia.Albert graduated from San Benito High School in 1939 and from Texas A&M in 1943. He honorably served our country in the United States Army Chemical Warfare Service as a Unit Commander during World War II. Albert served in both the Asia-Pacific and European- Africa Theater of Operations and held the rank of Captain.After World War II, Albert began a 37 year career with Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur, Texas. He later worked in Ireland, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Houston before retiring in 1983 as Executive Vice President.He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine Smith; daughters Helen Owen and husband Craig of New Braunfels, Elizabeth Hoffman and husband Don of The Heights, and Sharon Farmer and husband John of Friendswood; sons Bert Smith and wife Debbie of Lake Jackson, Gary Smith and wife Marilyn of Tyler, and Stephen Smith and wife Jackie of Magnolia; grandchildren Kelly Moore and husband Austin of San Antonio, Laura Owen of Los Angeles, Cindy Koester and husband Steve of League City, Cheryl Meche and husband Chad of Kyle, Paul Smith of Dallas, Lisa Utay and husband Jeff of Katy, Joe Smith and wife Lane of Fort Worth, Andrew Miller and Courtney Miller of Magnolia; and great grandchildren Sam and Harper Utay and Jonathan Moore. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.Pallbearers will be Paul Smith, Joe Smith, Chad Meche, Steve Koester, Jeff Utay, and Andrew Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Hoffman, John Farmer, Craig Owen, and Austin Moore .In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in Albert's name.
