Residence: Shenandoah County, VA.
Enlisted for 12 months' service on 4/18/1861 at Woodstock, VA., he was mustered into Company F, 10th Virginia Infantry, as a 2nd Sergeant.
Promoted to Brevet 2nd Lieut 10/8/1861.
Reenlisted for 3 years' service; promoted to Captain 4/3/1862.
Present on all Rolls from enlistment until Mortally Wounded In Action on 5/2/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.

The 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment was assembled at Harper's Ferry during the late spring of 1861. Four companies of the 4th Regiment Virginia Volunteers, a militia unit, were united with other volunteer companies to make up the regiment. An eleventh company was added to the command in April, 1862. Its men were raised in the counties of Shenandoah, Rockingham, Page, and Madison.
This unit reported 157 casualties at Chancellorsville.
