ALFRED HENRY BANKS
June 3, 1930 - Nov. 3, 2010

DALLAS, Ore. - Alfred "Al" Henry Banks, 80, a resident of Dallas, died at his home Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. He was born on June 3, 1930, in Salida, California, the son of Richard and Rosella Wilkenson Banks. He lost his parents three months apart at the age of 13 but had a resilient spirit about him. Al grew up in Watsonville and entered the Navy at age 16 to serve during World War II. He was drafted a few years later and served during the Korean War. On Dec. 10, 1979, he married Junea I. Ludeman in Reno, Nevada. They moved from Boring to Dallas in 1984. For many years, Al worked for Hampton Lumber in Willamina as a Heavy Equipment Millwright and retired as a purchasing agent for the company. For 10 years he worked for Bob Carney at the Monmouth Hardware Store. Al knew no strangers and always gave more than he ever received, and that was by his choice. He was a comedian, kind and a true, true family man. His children describe him as the "Mostest and the Bestest Daddy in the World". He enjoyed golf and people watching. He was a member of the "Liars Club" which met at Washington Street Grill at 5 a.m., seven days a week. He was a great cook, known for his pear pie. He was a member of the Dallas American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Junea of Dallas; daughters, Rosanne Galbreath of Gresham, Julene Kanies of Oregon City, Cindy Jones of Portland and Cheryl Mason of Omak, Washington; son, Daryl Dalebout of Spokane, Washington; along with 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Shirley Kirlycks of Carson City, Nevada, and his special buddy, "Abby", Al's spoiled dog. He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Viewing will be from 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7th in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8th in the mortuary. Interment will be in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Memorials suggested to Willamette Valley Hospice. To leave an online condolence for the family go to www.dallastribute.com.
