Mrs. Irene A. GUSTAFSON, 76, of 5800 Hennepin Dr., Joliet, Ill., and formerly of Rochester, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Joliet following an illness.
Born in Chicago to Erwin and Mable Webster Whistler, she lived in Rochester for 23 years after moving here from Chicago. On Aug. 21, 1948, she married Walter J. Gustafson in Chicago. He died July 18, 1995. A homemaker, she volunteered at Woodlawn Hospital, Gateway Community Hospital, Clarksville, Tenn., and Life Care Center of Rochester. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW auxiliary, both in Rochester.
Survivors include four daughters, Cheryl and husband Pete Satriano, Frankfort, Ill., Susan and husband Mark Finney, Phoenix, Beverly and husband Thomas Dudash, Joliet, Ill., and June and husband Erik Myers, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Walter and wife Nancy Gustafson Jr., Phoenix, and Herbert and wife Mary Gustafson, Clarksville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joannell Witcher, Phoenix; and one brother, Erwin Whistler, San Antonio.
Her funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Lloyd Howard officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clarksville, Tenn. hospice.
