Corley Smith, 40, died at Cookville, Tenn., Friday, of injuries received near Celina, Tenn.

Mr. Smith was attempting to start an engine in the boat he was piloting. He was a steamboatman of wide experience, having held a Master's license.

Mr. Smith was brought to Burnside, and after funeral services at the home, was laid to rest in the Burnside cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Alma Coomer.

Corley Smith was married to my grandmother Alma Bell Coomer, she married James Surber first, and was Alma Bell Surber when she and Corley were married. She had three children by James Surber, my mother Helen Marie Surber, Edward Littleton Surber and James Earl Surber. Corley Smith would have been my step-grandfather.
