Residence: Rockingham County, VA.; 21 year old single farmer; blue eyes, dark hair, florid complexion; 5'8".
Enlisted for 2 years' service on 4/10/1862 at Harrisonburg, VA., he was mustered into (2nd) Company C, 10th Virginia Infantry, as a 4th Corporal.
Wounded In Action (slightly) 5/25/1862 in 1st Battle of Winchester, VA.
Under arrest 8/19 - 12/10/1862 for allowing prisoner to escape; released Unconditionally.
Mortally Wounded In Action 5/3/1863 in Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.; died of wounds in nearby Elwood Plantation Hospital.
His father, Thomas Kirkpatrick, filed a settlement Claim on 10/28/1863; he was found due $111.75.

The 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment was assembled at Harper's Ferry during the late spring of 1861. Four companies of the 4th Regiment Virginia Volunteers, a militia unit, were united with other volunteer companies to make up the regiment. An eleventh company was added to the command in April, 1862. Its men were raised in the counties of Shenandoah, Rockingham, Page, and Madison.
This unit reported 157 casualties at Chancellorsville.
