Deceased Name: Area restaurant owner George Eggert dies at 61

Area restaurateur George A. Eggert, Jr., 61, of Mount Prospect, died July 10 at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Chicago.

His maternal grandparents had founded Heuer's, a popular restaurant in Rosemont. His father and uncle later took over the business, and Mr. Eggert worked there as a teenager.

In the 1980s, the restaurant property was absorbed by Rosemont into its expanding O'Hare Convention Center, now Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, at Bryn Mawr Avenue and River Road. The younger generation of the Heuer family purchased the former Hapsburg Inn on River Road in Mount Prospect and turned it into a banquet facility, named Kathryn's after Mr. Eggert's grandmother, Kathryn Heuer.

For 18 years, Mr. Eggert was co-owner and operator of Kathryn's.

He is survived by his wife Janet L. (nee Boyd); his son, Mark J. (Dina) Eggert of Huntley; grandchildren Callie, Ethan and Kennedy; his parents, George Sr. and Juanita Eggert of Des Plaines; siblings Dolly (Pat) Readey of Des Plaines; Gregory (Shirley) Eggert of Northbrook, Geannine (Joe) Lynch of Burr Ridge, Mary (Roman) Korab of Arlington Heights and Laura (Dave) Schnier of Clinton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon L.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. His funeral service was held Wednesday at Maryville Academy Chapel, Des Plaines, conducted by the Rev. John Smyth. Burial was at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
