Eugene C. Ryan passed away on October 22, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. He was 90 years old.

He was born on August 29, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. His father was William J. Ryan and his mother was Hazel L. Hamilton (Ryan). He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1939 and attended the University of Saint Mary's in San Antonio, the University of Oregon in Eugene and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, majoring in Labor Relations.

Gene served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II holding most of the enlisted ranks before graduating from the Air Force Officers Training School in Miami Beach, Florida. He rose to the rank of Major. His last assignment was in the Philippine Islands as the Staff Personnel Officer in Command Headquarters for the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He received many letters of commendation including two General Commendation Medals. After the war he remained in the Air Force Reserve program, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Gene was employed by Mobil Oil for 36 years in the field of Labor Relations with assignments in Production, Refining and Marketing. He worked several years at the Mobil Refinery in Ferndale, Washington and was president of Mobil's Management Association.

Gene was married to Doris L. Ryan for 40 years prior to her death in 1985.

He are survived by three children, all of whom reside in Bellingham: Robert R. Ryan (J.E. "Sam", and their sons, Matt and Dan); Matthew S. Ryan (Margie, and son, Tyler); Susan J. Moreau (Harry and sons, Nicholas, Vincent and Luke). Gene and Doris had a fourth child, Gary D. Ryan, who passed away in 1997 and is survived by his wife, Karen (Tom) Ekdahl and their sons, Sean and Cody Ryan.

Gene married Joan J. Remboldt in 1995 and they divided their time between Weatherby Lake, MO, Tucson, AZ, and Bellingham. He enjoyed boating in the San Juan Islands, trailering thru the western U.S., traveling to China, Egypt, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. He enjoyed golfing, swimming and family gatherings.

He was known for his conservative principals, his superb organizational skills, his community service and most of all for his love and generosity.

Gene's remains will be interred next to his wife, Doris, and son, Gary, at Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham, WA. There will be a memorial service at 1 pm on November 19 at Moles Bayview Chapel located at 2465 Lakeway Drive.

In lieu of flowers Gene would prefer donations to the Lions Sight Foundation c/o Bellingham Central Lions Club, P. O. Box 602, Bellingham, WA 98227.
