Graydon G. Maynard - (born in New York - 1838).
.
Located in the small village of Elysian,
[Le Sueur County], Minnesota where he listed his occupation as ''Merchant'' in petitioning for membership in Sakatah Lodge No. 32 Waterville, Minnesota. Here he became a Master Mason April 9, 1870. His wife was Mary J. Deming, younger sister of George [C.] Deming. Their sister Francis Deming was the wife of J.M. Spicer [John Mason Spicer*], for whom the village of Spicer was named. This relationship may account for the Maynards locating in Atwater. Their only child Arba Deming Maynard died here May 9, 1878, the year that Graydon signed as the tenth petitioner for Orion's charter. Six months later, Nov. 18, 1878 and only 26 days before the approval for the lodge under dispensation was granted, Graydon Maynard died and his name was never entered in the Register as a charter member. The Maynard monument close to that of the Demings in the Atwater Union Cemetery, bears a fine Masonic emblem in stone, facing the east.
