Wagoneer JOHN G. MCQUOWN, Co. I, 86th Illinois

John C. McQuown was born on October 1, 1824 in Connersville, Fayette County, Indiana, the son of ___________ McQuown and ___________ (___________) McQuown. Shortly before his death, or perhaps even after his death, the 1902 Historical Encylopedia of Peoria County was published. John's son-in-law, William V. Watson, had his biography published in this Enclyclopedia. In it the following was stated. "Mr. Watson married Harriet McQuown, daughter of John C. McQuown, a native of Indiana, who came with his parents to Peoria County in 1834, when thirteen years old. He is still living with his son, S. A. McQuown."
So it appears that John C. McQuown came to Illinois with his parents in the middle 1830's. The family however can not be identified in the 1840 census.
John C. McQuown was married to Mary Jane Simpson on October 1, 1850 in Peoria County, Illinois. Their children include;
1. William R. McQuown, born about August 17, 1851 in Peoria County, Illinois. William died on December 30, 1852 at the age of 1 yr, 4 mo and 13 days. His mortal remains were laid in the Smithville Cemetery in Peoria County, Illinois.

2. Harriet M. McQuown, born c. 1852/53 in Peoria County, Illinois. Harriet was married to William V. McQuown, who was also a veteran of the Civil War.

3. Samuel A. McQuown, born c. 1855/56 in Peoria County, Illinois.
