Tempie was the daughter of John Gilley and Lucille Jane Turner. She was born in 1880 and married 1899, so she was never on the census with her parents.

In 1900 Grandmother and Granddad were living next door to Daddy and his parents, so they watched their future son inlaw grow up.

Grandmother and Grandfather had eleven children; Mary, Jack, Bessie, Grover, Gracie, Josie, Bea, Lillie and Allie (twins), Dellie, and Nell.

Four of their children are in unmarked graves at Morton Chapel in Etowah County.
