He was a farmer in Washington Park, Pyne Point, Cramer Hill and Marlton Pike. He and Mary Ann had 10 children: William Edward 1881, Jane Ann 1882, Edward Smith 1884, Thomas 1887, Florence 1890, Christopher Jr. 1893, Mary Ann 1895, Harold Dewey 1898, Arthur 1903, and Merrill Evertt 1901. In Christopher's obituary it was mentioned that he and Walt Whitman were friends.
